Title: This is the Way a Baby Rides
Author: Susan Meyers
Illustrator: Hiroe Nakata
Reading Level: Baby - Preschool
Hardcover: 40 Pages
Publisher: Abrams Books
On a beautiful sunny day, Mommy and daddy set off for picnic with their charming little baby. But, getting there is half the fun. As Dad packs in maps, binoculars and kites, Mom prepares a picnic basket with sandwiches, pickles, fruits, crackers and cupcakes. Baby joins in the fun bringing along apple, pear and his favorite teddy bear. And, off they go in their little yellow hatchback. While Dad unloads the stuff, baby enjoys a piggyback ride with mom. She plays peek-a-boo, runs, jumps and eats before settling for a nap. The baby wakes up and plays some more. After having fun frolicking through the park, she rides back home.
My daughter loves this book as much as I do. She giggles watching the baby enjoying a piggy-back ride and splashing in the stream. When the baby plays peek-a-boo, she helps out mommy and daddy find the baby. To add more fun, the animals in the park mimic what the baby does. The jumping rabbits, munching squirrels, sleepy ducks, running opposums and hiding deers delights her to no end. I think what makes this book more appealing to her are the playful watercolor illustrations that adorn every page. She spends a good amount of time just looking at the pictures. And I still remember how we read this book over and over again the very first time I got it from our local library. I have renewed it several times already. I guess its time to get our own copy now :)
