One Naked Baby by Maggie Smith

Title: One Naked Baby
Author/Illustrator: Maggie Smith
Reading Level: Ages 4 - 8
Hardcover: 40 pages
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

With one naked baby and a charming story, here comes a counting book you can totally count on! A toddler's day begins as he runs happily out of the bathtub his mother chasing behind with a bath towel. He runs past the cats napping in the laundry basket and plays with the clothes in the hamper. He dresses up, plays a tickling game with mommy, eats breakfast and heads out to the garden in his froggy boots and buttoned up sweater. He plays in the sandbox, picks up sticks, watches robin birds fly and stomps in the puddles before he gets all muddy and goes back in the bathtub again. As we count along, the story comes one full circle. It presents so many counting opportunities for your little one with all the playful animals like penguins, ducks, bunnies, chipmunks, dogs and cats that appear on every page. And Of course, We fell in love with this naked baby the first time we read it.

Toddlers have exciting days in general. Even if you coop them up all day inside the house, they will find ways to keep themselves busy. DD is very much like the active baby portrayed in the book. She is up and running all day with a few stops to pump up her little tank with some fuel. She loves bath time, but like the baby in the book, the moment she is out of the tub, I have to chase her down with a towel as she runs around the house playing with laundry baskets, cupboards, diapers and toys. Before I could pin her down with a diaper, she would have thrown open the cupboard drawers, littered the carpet with books, sent diapers flying everywhere, pulled pots and pans out of kitchen cupboards, climbed her highchair to explore things on the breakfast bar and perched herself up on the couch daring me to get close with her going-to-throw-tantrum-anytime look. After some tickling games and a few rounds of wrestling matches to get dressed up, we head out the door for more play. Toddlers days could get as busy and exciting as ours and this is one book that beautifully captures their world. We could relate to so many things in this book and that's what makes it more interesting I think. Like my daughter, this is one book your baby might want to read over and over again.

My Rating: 4.5/5
