Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth

Title: Ten Little Ladybugs
Author: Melanie Gerth
Illustrator: Laura Huliska-Beith
Reading Level: Ages 4 - 8
Hardcover: 22 pages
Publisher: Piggy Toes Press

Ten little ladybugs sitting on a vine,
along came a butterfly - then there were...
Nine little ladybugs skipping on a gate,
along came a caterpillar - then there were...

As the adorable little ladybugs are greeted by visitors like caterpillar, fish, grasshopper, duck and frog, they disappear one by one. But, Where do they all go? Do they get gobbled up by the caterpillar or the frog? You might want to wait until you get to the end of the book. The cut-out holes and the embedded plastic ladybugs on the front cover is good enough to allure even the most reluctant readers. Not only is this a great book for learning how to count backwards, the ladybugs can teach them colors as well.

I think my daughter was around 8 months old when I first read it to her and I still remember how she loved taking turns on everyone's lap in the family to have hours of fun just reading this one book alone. She was so fascinated by the colorful ladybugs that she kept chewing them all the time. And, What's more? She loved to peep and poke through the holes. More than reading, she actually looked forward to PLAYing with this book. She may be still young to learn to count backwards, but it was also THE book that sparked an interest for ladybugs and she is still obsessed with them. This is such a perfectly rhyming counting book every child must have!

My Rating: 5/5
